how to use this pattern & online course
Before picking up the crochet hook, I’d love to share with you what you’ll come across in this pattern and how to use this online course.
crochet terminology
This pattern is written in UK and US crochet terminology. If the stitch names are different, they are shown as UK terminology (US terminology). The stitch abbreviations that are used in this pattern are summarised in the table below:
number of stitches / rows / flower repeats
Throughout this crochet pattern, there are parentheses, square brackets and curvy brackets to show the stitches, rows or flower repeats for each Flourish design:
(for Homelea Happy or 10ply / worsted weight yarn: square, cowl, scarf, wrap, throw, blanket)
[for Homelea Bliss or super chunky yarn: square, cowl, scarf, wrap, throw, blanket]
{for custom Flourishes: 5a / 5b / 5c / 5d from the My Flourish progress worksheet}
For example, (34, 44, 44, 314, 144, 244) [14, 9, 9, 99, 44, 74] {5a} means:
- made with Homelea Happy or a 10ply / worsted weight yarn:
- Flourish Square – 34 stitches
- Flourish Cowl – 44 stitches
- Flourish Scarf – 44 stitches
- Flourish Wrap – 314 stitches
- Flourish Throw – 144 stitches
- Flourish Blanket – 244 stitches
- made with Homelea Bliss or a super chunky yarn:
- Flourish Square – 14 stitches
- Flourish Cowl – 9 stitches
- Flourish Scarf – 9 stitches
- Flourish Wrap – 99 stitches
- Flourish Throw – 44 stitches
- Flourish Blanket –74 stitches
- for custom Flourishes: 5a from the My Flourish Progress Worksheet
Helpful hint: go through the pattern and highlight the numbers that are relevant to what’s being made or refer to the Progress Worksheet and Pattern Reference Sheet.
number of stitches at the end of each row
The total number of stitches in a row is shown in curvy brackets at the end of each row. For example {(x) [y] {5a} sts} means:
- x number of sts for Homelea Happy or a 10ply / worsted weight yarn
- y number of sts for Homelea Bliss or a super chunky yarn
- 5a is the final stitches in each row from the My Flourish Progress Worksheet
Count the number of stitches by counting the V’s at the top of each stitch.
turning chain
There is no turning chain used in this pattern. A dc (sc) and ch replaces a tr (dc) as the first st of every row.
