flourish calculator (optional)

When customising Flourish, this helpful calculator and a blocked practice piece are used to work out the amount of yarn needed, the finished size, plus the number of stitches and rows. This is recorded on the My Flourish Progress Worksheet.

What’s needed to use the Flourish Calculator:

  • practice piece – crocheted and blocked  (follow the instructions here)
  • My Flourish Progress Worksheet (download it here)
  • ruler or tape measure
  • scales – kitchen scales are ideal for this
  • weight of a skein / ball of yarn (found on the yarn tag or website)
  • pen or pencil

Some helpful advice for successfully using the Calculator:

  • Use it when there’s time to sit and concentrate, measuring everything twice and checking that the units are correct.
  • The units of measurement are important. The units are shown in brackets for each step and an easy way to do the conversion is to do a google search (for example search for “in to cm”).
  • Enter numbers into the calculator, not the units. For example, enter “14” instead of “14cm”.
  • Block the practice piece to accurately calculate the finished size, stitches and rows, and the yarn needed.
  • Go through the process twice to check for any errors.
