what we’re making

We’re crocheting a chunky Warm Heart Scarf or Cowl. It’s made using lusciously soft Australian merino wool and it won’t take you long to make it.

This pattern is made using alternating treble (US double crochet) and double crochet (US single crochet) stitches to form an interesting texture, and the bonus is that you’ll master the basic crochet stitches as you’re making it.

size

The Warm Heart Scarf or Cowl is 18cm (7in) side and 1m (1yd) long and you can change the size to suit what you’d like.

Over time it may grow a little depending on how you wear and store it – I love how wool responds to each person differently. Want it to go back to the original size? Wash it in cool water with wool wash, and then shape it to the correct size and lie it flat to dry.

The gauge (tension) for this design is approximately 2 rows and 3 stitches in a 10cm (4in) by 10cm (4in) square.

how to change the size

Changing the size of your Warm Heart Scarf or Cowl is easy. Here are a few different ways to do it:

  • increase or decrease the number of stitches in the foundation chain to change the width, or
  • increase or decrease the number of rows to change the length, or
  • change the size of your yarn or use a different sized crochet hook to change both the height and length.
